Remember how I said that if you wanted Google Maps Navigation on your Cliq, you’d have to wait for T-Mobile to roll out an upgrade? Well, it looks like that’s about to happen! Well, eventually. I noticed this morning that my Motorola Cliq (or CLIQ, depending on whether or not you want to follow Motorola’s convention of [...]
I usually don’t write about stuff with this much hype, but for some reason, I feel compelled to give my two cents on the subject. I’m not very impressed with Apple’s new tablet, and many others were left underwhelmed as well. The months of rumors and speculation that hyped up the device and set our expectations too [...]
Anyone like DC Comics? I love superheroes! I don’t read comics that much, but I love watching DC and Marvel movies and TV shows. DC’s my favorite, and while I’m sad that the string of animated television series known as the DCAU has ended, I’ve been quenching my appetite with DC’s recent string of direct-to-DVD [...]
I’m playing with Google App Engine! In case you’ve been living under a rock, Google App Engine is basically free hosting for Java and Python apps. Your app is hosted on an appspot.com subdomain, and you can pay for extra resources if your app starts to get really popular. I’ll be using it to play around with [...]
Hello, Google. I use most of your products, and I like most of them. So I hear you have this new thing out called Google Buzz. Hmm, interesting. Looks decent. But… do I really need another real-time messaging service? There are plenty of services out there that seemingly do the same thing. Whether it’s an instant messaging [...]
Last week, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz interviewed me in front of more than 600 Yahoos gathered at the company’s Silicon Valley HQ. I was appearing as the first in a new speaker series, “Yahoo From the ‘Outside In,’” for employees at the Internet giant, due to my intense reporting about the company. Bartz, as you will see in the entire video below, proved to be a decent interviewer and got me chatting away like some crazy digital mynah bird. Topics ran the gamut from who my sources are to what I would do if I ...
In December, Yahoo revealed a new strategy: lots and lots of Facebook . Today the company announced that it’s gradually rolling out the first feature to come from the partnership — Facebook Connect integration with Yahoo Mail. The new feature means that Yahoo Mail users can now connect their Facebook accounts and integrate their Facebook friends’ e-mail addresses into their Yahoo Contacts list. Users can visit the Import Contacts page to be guided through he Facebook friend import process. Of course, thi...
Wouldn't it be cool to have book readers that could IM and offer presence? Maybe take or make phone calls? Now that Amazon announced it will open its Kindle book readers to third party developers , Skype could build an app for this new platform . No it can't. Amazon warns "Voice over IP functionality, advertising, offensive materials, collection of customer information without express customer knowledge and consent, or usage of the Amazon or Kindle brand in any way are not allowed." I can think of three ...
Premium TV network Starz Entertainment has re-upped with Disney on its distribution deal, assuring access to the studio's movies through 2015. Why do you care? Because the deal means Starz keeps the digital rights to the studio's films, which means that Netflix streaming video users will be able to watch the movies.
I would like to take the time with this post to highlight some other Google Wave Bloggers that are available and offer excellent, quality posts of the highest standards. You won’t find any cut & paste posts on these sites or re-hashing or re-wording of similar stories that you have seen everywhere else. To the contrary, these sites are based on hands-on observations experienced by the developer with Google Wave. So let’s get right to the list (in no particular order): “ On the top of the Wave “ – is a bl...
Today at the Google’s Campfire One event at the company’s headquarters in Mountain View the Internet search giant is launching its new app store for business, known as the Google Apps Marketplace . Last week, we broke the story that Google Apps Marketplace would launch today, reporting that it would be an app store integrated within Google Apps that would allow third-party developers to sell software directly to Google’s business consumers. Now, with developers gathered at the Googleplex, we’re about to ...
Like many other media companies, National Public Radio is scrambling to prepare an app in time for the iPad's April 3 launch. But the standoff between Apple and Adobe has prompted NPR to take on another engineering project at the same time: It is building a version of its Web site designed specifically for the iPad.
